1. Going for a short stay to Belgium (90 days within any 180-day period)

Third-country nationals entering Belgium for a short stay (90 days within any 180-day period) are required to report their arrival within three working days of entering Belgium. Starting April 10, 2026, they can report their arrival in Belgium online by using the electronic form “My Address in Belgium” (MAB). They are therefore no longer required to go in person to the relevant municipality of their place of stay in Belgium to submit a “declaration of arrival”.

This is not applicable to third country nationals who go to Belgium for a short stay and have a residence permit or a D visa from another EU Member State : they must always report their arrival and address in person to the local authority and are therefore unable to use the electronic form. This is because these foreign nationals are not registered in the EES (Entry-Exit System).

Foreign nationals staying in a hotel, hospital or prison are exempt from the reporting obligation.

EU nationals (and their family members)
must report their presence within 10 working days of entering Belgium.

This notification can now also be made online using the electronic form “My Address in Belgium” (MAB). It is no longer necessary for the person concerned to go to the relevant local authority in person.

Persons staying in a hotel, hospital or prison are exempt from this requirement.

You can find more information about the Entry-Exit System, “My Address in Belgium (MAB),” and the requirement to report your arrival in Belgium for a short stay on the Immigration Office’s website and on social media:

2. Going for a long stay to Belgium

Once you have arrived in Belgium, you have to register with the commune/municipality where you will be residing within 8 days.

Moreover, you need to show a willingness to integrate in Belgian society (general condition of stay from 25.01.2017).

The efforts towards integration in Belgian society by a foreigner who is admitted to or permitted to a stay of more than three months in Belgium will henceforth be verified by the Immigration Office (FPS Interior).

We strongly recommend that you consult the website of the Immigration Office for a detailed explanation regarding this general condition of stay.
